Governing Board

Bill Balch 2008

 

Bill has been on the Governing Board since its inception and has been actively participating in the life of The River since 1998. He was a small group leader and coach in the early Foundations Courses and is currently involved in a family small group. He is married to Debbi who sings with the Worship team.

Bill and Debbi have four children, all of which they adopted: Daniel, Stephanie, Jesse, and Will. Bill also has an older daughter, Elizabeth, who was a longtime volunteer in Student Ministries at The River. Bill and his brother own and operate a construction company and a Chevron service station.

Myrna Hill 2009

Myrna is new to the governing board in 2009.  She and her husband, Jack came to the Silicon Valley in 2001 to join the River Church.  Myrna knows intimately the challenges of  spiritual  leadership from her 28 years of missionary service in Canada and internationally with YWAM and Mercy Ships.  Myrna’s heart for the broken found expression and service in Restoration Ministries; she has presented to women’s ministry, singles seminars and marriage seminars and is part of the intercession team. 

Jack and Myrna have 3 grown children, 6 grandchildren.  Myrna is a licensed Marriage and Family therapist in private practice in Newark, CA.

 

Kathryn Mar 2008

Kathryn and her family moved to San Jose in 1994, after having served with YWAM, in the Mercy Ship and refugee camp ministries, for 10 years. During her years with YWAM, she and her husband Doug, became aware first hand of the joys and pain that accompany leadership. With this background, upon returning to the US, Kathryn found in her heart a desire to pray for and serve those in leadership positions in the body of Christ. She has been attending the River since 1997. She has been a part of the Healing Path ministry and currently is on the intercessor team.  She joined the Governing Board in 2005.

Kathryn works as the nurse manager for Doug's psychiatric practice. They have a son, Brendan.

Brian Perronne 2008

Brian has been on the Governing Board since 2005 and has been part of the River since 2000. He has served as a small group leader trainer and coach and currently co-leads a small group with his wife Loris. He also serves as part of the Giving Team. Brian and Loris have three young children, Anna, Wesley, and Caleb. Brian works at the Lucile Packard Foundation for Children's Health as Senior Vice President of Development and Administration.

Julie Priest 2009

Julie is new to the governing board in 2009.  She has been coming to The River since 2001.  She has been a member of the Global/Local small group for many years, and also serves on the Greeting Team.  Julie has been a leader and participant on various River ICE trips, and enjoys learning about other cultures and languages.  Julie has worked as a Family Nurse Practitioner at the Indian Health Center in San Jose for eight years.


Tom Tsao 2008

Tom has been serving on the Governing Board since 2001 and was voted Chair in 2003. Tom works at Yahoo! as a Vice President of Product Management. He and his wife Judy have been coming to the River since 1998. They have two daughters Katy and Abby.

Tom and Judy have been members of a vibrant small group with other River families for many years. Judy is also a member of the Kids' Community Council.

Mike Valentine 2009

Mike is new to the governing board in 2009. Mike and his wife, Pat, have been attending The River since 2001 when they moved back to California from Cleveland, Ohio.  Since coming to The River they have been involved in leading a small group in their home, training small group leaders, mentoring engaged couples, teaching in Kid’s Community, leading an adult bible study and being actively involved in our ICE Trip missions to Peru. Mike is also a part of the worship team playing acoustic guitar.

Mike and Pat have two married daughters living in Southern California who are actively involved in their local churches.  They enjoy having three grandchildren.  Mike has been working for over 20 years in Sales and Marketing for Swagelok.
