Alex Lerza was exposed to spirituality through the Russian Orthodox Church and the First United Methodist Church. "The former taught me the holiness of God and the latter more about God’s love for the poor." While attending the University of California Santa Cruz he checked out various faiths—Hinduism, Taoism, Buddhism and what he calls “Jesusanity.” Through InterVarsity Christian Fellowship, Alex really focused on the person of Jesus and began to see a clearer picture of who He really was. He accepted Christ his third year and later became a worship leader and small group leader.
After graduating in 2002, Alex was called to minister to college students and worked with InterVarsity for 6 years at SCU, Stanford and San José State. He was the Worship leader at San Jose Christian Reformed Church before coming on staff with The River in August 2011.
Alex's favorite ways of worshipping God are through song writing and creative living. The River Church Community is a place where he has been blessed and inspired to do both.
Alex is also passionate about people being renewed, restored and made whole. He is currently pursuing this passion as a Marriage Family Therapist Trainee at The Christian Counseling Center in San Jose.
Alex loves rolling hills and finding spots in the wilderness that no one knows about. He likes taking his wife on hikes to those places. He enjoy spear fishing, fly fishing, basketball, tennis and good friends to do it with.
