Changes That Heal - Begins September 15
This fall beginning September 15 we are hosting a class based on the book Changes That Heal by Dr. Henry Cloud. It is intended for both men & women and especially for those who are married, dating or thinking about dating. Changes That Heal focuses on four developmental task: bonding to others to form truly intimate relationships, separating from others to gain a greater sense of self, integrating good and bad, and growing emotionally and spiritually into healthy adulthood. Dr. Cloud combines his well-developed faith, and keen understanding of human nature in a four-step program of healing and growth (Please have the first two chapters read by week 1). The book can be found on Amazon or the Berean Bookstore. The format for the group will be to discuss the material read on a week to week basis for the first hour of the group. This first hour will be lead by a member of the Restoration team. Then, we’ll spend the second hour in small groups sharing more personal struggles and receiving prayer for identified areas of weakness. “I read this book years ago and it exposed how emotionally immature I was in many of my relationships/friendships. As I began to understand what it truly means to attach in healthy ways I found that my addictive patterns were starting to lessen and I was experiencing a greater sense of self. Reading the material on learning how to draw healthy boundaries in my life exposed my need to be liked, hence, my inability to say “no” to most things. Dr. Cloud showed me through his writings how my poor view of self and God disabled me to receive the love he so freely offered to me.
