Ember Ink Spotlight

Giving Team Spotlight on Ember Ink

Too often, the significance of our tithes stops the moment we sign the check. Too often, we don’t know where our gift is going, or what ministries we are supporting. The Giving Team wants to change that. It is important that the church body be aware of where our tithes are going, so that we can partner with local and overseas ministries in a way that extends beyond finances. That is why we will be periodically highlighting one of the ministries that your tithing helps fund.

Ember Ink is one of the ministries that The River supports. Started by Luke and Angela Haythorpe, Ember Ink’s heart is to support, and advocate for ministries that work with issues of injustice, poverty, and sex trafficking. Its focus starts locally, as the Haythorpes have partnered with ministries in San Jose, will extend regionally to the Bay Area, and finally will link the local resources to provide aid overseas. The unique focus of Ember Ink is that it will use music, media, and art to bring awareness to issues of injustice, and provide opportunities to create change.

The Haythorpes are pioneering this ministry, and have watched it grow during the past year and a half with the support of The River. In their own words, the church has been a phenomenal support and has become a partnership, a family, and an incredible blessing. They currently are asking for prayer as they move forward with founding the Discipleship Training School. The school will be in San Jose and will create a generation of storytellers that will combine journalism, photography, and art to promote issues of injustice. The students would spend three months studying at the school, and three months applying their knowledge overseas. The Haythorpes are praying to find a facility in San Jose that they could purchase; this building would be a place to have offices, and offer staff and student housing.

In January, Ember Ink will once again be hosting monthly community nights that will promote local ministries with music and art. For more information about Ember Ink visit www.emberink.com.
