Loving San Jose Stories

Several weeks ago the River spent part of their Sunday morning worship time “Loving San Jose”.  Groups set out across downtown to server people in meaningful ways.  I was blessed to lead a clean-up at our family's local park here in our downtown neighborhood, Backesto Park.  It’s a beautiful old urban downtown park surrounded by sycamore trees and filled with people especially on warm evenings.  The houses are small in our neighborhood so the park becomes an extended backyard for many.

What a joy it was for us to join with others at the River to bless the neighborhood with this park cleanup.  It was especially great to see the kid’s enthusiasm as they set out to collect garbage with their garbage grabbers.  We expected them to poop out after a while but many of them made it all the way around the park!

I ran into an old neighbor friend during the cleanup who inquired about our church.  He’s interested in finding a place for his kids to find some “moral guidance”.  He’s been very involved as a volunteer at Backesto himself and has spent countless hours on park improvements.  Well he didn’t just get to hear me tell about the River but saw the River in action as we served together to bless the place that was so important to him.  This is what our church as about.  The hands and feet of Jesus as we seek to serve the community He loves in a tangible way.
