Prayer Night

Tuesday, March 8th
7 P.M. at The River Ministry Center

Come join us for a night dedicated to preparing ourselves for the Lenten season. Lent is a time of preparing ourselves through prayer, giving, self-denial, and self-evaluation leading up to Easter Sunday. This will be a night to prepare our hearts. Part of that process is realizing how much we want to grow in freedom to love God and our neighbors, and what can we identify and change to lighten our spirits.

If you imagine Lent as an "ordeal" or a time you dread in some way, then you've already pre-disposed yourself to not get very much out of it.  This evening will be about anticipating something wonderful that perhaps God might do through us. Our hope is that during our time together, God will reveal to us family, friends or co-workers we can be praying for throughout the Lenten season.

We’ll also focus on what God wants to give us during this Lenten season. Our hope is that our sense of excitement and anticipation will grow more easily if we begin to imagine what God wants to give us.  Maybe it is a renewed heart, or an intense joy, or a release of feelings and emotions that have blocked us in our relationship with Him. If we get too focused on ourselves, and what we are going to do or not do, we could risk missing the gift God wants to give us.

Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, March 9th, but we want to be ready to really take off on that day, rather than just beginning to think about Lent on that day.  The evening will be about slowing down a bit and listening to the Holy Spirit. We’ll also take some time to share with one another our desires and support one another’s hopes and dreams through prayer.

Our hope is to give God a space to touch our hearts through this gathering to pray for our hearts and the hearts of others.
