Thanksgiving Book Drive
Every Sunday in November, Kids Community and our youth will be collecting books for our Thanksgiving Book Drive. This is the third year we've held a book drive to benefit children near and far.
We’re looking for: Board Books, Picture Books, Chapter Books, Fiction, Non-Fiction (In very good condition – new or gently-used)
Last year, through the generous donations from River families and with an extra boost of support from the students at Silver Oak Elementary and Laurelwood Elementary, we collected over 3600 books. We sent 3000 books to Little Wound K-12 School on the Pine Ridge Lakota Reservation in South Dakota. Pine Ridge is one of the poorest places in the United States, but the kids there love books. In a place where economic resources are so scarce, books really shine. An additional 600 books were given to Washington Elementary School here in downtown San Jose. The River has been serving and befriending the families at Washington Elementary for over 10 years now through tutoring, Bible Camp, and other kindness projects.
