Small Groups

What is a Small Group Community at The River?

Our primary pictures of life together come from the Bible. Starting with the attractive description of the early church community in Acts 2:42-47, we also look at Ephesians 4 and Hebrews 3. Our model of Small Group Community life is characterized by:

TIME. There is a fundamental commitment to meeting together regularly.

AUTHENTICITY. Honesty and vulnerability characterize the relationships.

MUTUAL SUPPORT. People are increasingly opening their whole lives to one another for encouragement, challenge, and accountability.

TRANSFORMATION. Together, people are deepening in their intimacy with God, growing in their application of his truth from scripture, and experiencing life change.

SHARED LIFE, MET NEEDS. More and more of life becomes common among community members: meals, material resources, major and minor life events.

DIVERSITY. People of all ethnicities, life-stages, marital and family status, gifts and skills—people from all walks of life join together, celebrating our unity before God and serving one another from our abundant uniqueness.

SHARED MISSION. The group is serving together in common ministry, both inward (the church) and outward (the greater community and world) focused.

FRIENDLY TO SEEKERS. The community is attractive to seekers, and through it God draws many into relationship with himself.
