Veronica’s House – Lima, Peru - An emergency shelter and rehabilitation care center. Gift: $4000
Past gifts:
Paz y Esperanza - $32,000. Paz y Esperanza is a Christian justice ministry in Huanuco Peru. Some of their most significant work in Huanuco is advocating for sexually abused girls and providing resources for their rehabilitation and care. $25,000 of our gift is going towards developing part of "La Granja" an organic farm (also purchased with help from River friends) into an Ecological Recreation Park where low-income families can come to build family bonds and learn about the environment. By strengthening families, Paz hopes to break the cycle of chauvinism and contempt for children that contributes to the abuse epedemic in Huanuco. $8,000 of our gift to Paz is to support startup costs for their expansion into Guayaquil, Ecuador's largest city.
La Vida Education - $22,000. La Vida Education is dedicated to providing educational resources and opportunities to the children of San Juan de Oriente, Nicaragua. La Vida operates the second-busiest library in Nicaragua in a small store-front in San Juan. While this facility has served the community well, it is severely space constrained and lacks adequate earthquake protection. These funds will help La Vida purchase land for a permanent educational and community center for the town of San Juan.
Iglesia en Transformacion - $13,000. We are providing $13,000 to our sister church Iglesia en Transformacion in Tegucigalpa Honduras so that they can build a kitchen and fellowship hall for their church plant in the neighborhood of La Tigra, a low-income rural community. This facility will enable the church to host Sunday School, workshops, trainings, and social functions in the community.
