Quarterly Missional Tradition
At the River Church Community, we believe that Jesus wants us to be his presence in our local communities, downtown San Jose, and the world. For this reason, we have begun a quarterly missional tradition. Simply, each quarter we are trying to serve our Valley together. It is our way of making sure to honor the way Jesus lived as much as affirm the truth he declared.
Twice a year, we dedicate a Sunday morning worship to serving downtown San Jose. We may sing a song or two but the focus of our worship is outside the four walls of the SJSU’s Student Union. We believe that Sunday mornings on the street, serving the disempowered and loving our downtown neighbors as a community, is worship that pleases God.
And twice a year, we dedicate an entire week to partnering with compassion-oriented organizations to bless downtown and the valley. This week has two primary goals. First, it is meant to build greater partnership between local organizations and River members to facilitate longer-term friendship and participation. Second, it is meant to help further shape our self-perception as a people sent by God into the world to be His loving presence.
Our quarterly tradition is a family tradition. A tradition for all who have a desire to love those in need and share the gospel with those who do not know it. Come and join us.
