Quarterly Service Tradition

At the River Church Community, we have begun a quarterly service tradition because we believe that loving our neighbor is as important as loving our God.  Simply, each quarter we are trying to serve our Valley together.

Twice a year, we dedicate a Sunday morning worship to serving downtown San Jose.  We may sing a song or two but the focus of our worship is outside the four walls of the SJSU’s Student Union.  We believe that Sunday mornings on the street, serving the disempowered and loving our downtown neighbors as a community, is worship that pleases God.

And twice a year, we dedicate an entire week to partnering with compassion-oriented organizations to bless downtown and the valley.  This week has two primary goals.  First, it is meant to build greater partnership between local organizations and River members to facilitate longer-term friendship and participation.  Second, it is meant to help further shape our self-perception as a people sent by God into the world to be His loving presence.

BUT our quarterly service tradition is not merely for River members.  It is a community service opportunity for Silicon Valley residents offered by The River Church Community.  Sometimes, in the busyness of our lives, it can be difficult to find a meaningful way to serve others.  Because of this, The River wants to provide an easy way for all residents, whether you are an atheist, a Christian or somewhere in between, to meaningfully participate in community service.  You just need to sign up, show up and serve.
