LA VIDA Education
LA VIDA Education provides educational resources and extracurricular programs to schools and communities in Nicaragua. As the poorest Spanish speaking country in the world, Nicaragua has a long history of conflict and limited access to education, resulting in a system where the average Nicaraguan child will not graduate beyond sixth grade.
LA VIDA was founded in 2003 by Aaron Pick, a former staff member at The River, to use education as a vehicle for community transformation in Nicaragua, and an ongoing partnership with the church continues to this day. The organization currently runs a free educational community center, which includes the second most attended library in the country, and serves the educational needs of approximately 5,000 people in the village of San Juan de Oriente. In the past few years, The River has run kids’ camps in the town for more than 300 children a day, an event which is consistently seen as a highlight of the year for youth in the community.
