bLoG 41: The Power of Stories

Jan 12, 2011

Stories.  We all have them.  And they are both mundane and, at times, powerful.  As a staff team, we have begun to share stories at the beginning of every staff meeting about how we have connected with people outside church walls (secular friends, parents in our children’s classes, and even random people at the super market or Target).   Stories are fascinating because, in some ways, we are not really doing anything deep or profound.  We are simply talking.  And yet, our staff team has begun to change.  It is like we have been given new eyes to see the world—a world full of opportunity to be authentic with our faith in our neighborhoods and in our daily lives.  On a church staff, it is so easy to become totally encapsulated in a churchy bubble.  And stories it all it took to pop the bubble—and reconnect to the life of God on the streets of Silicon Valley.  The crazy thing is this “bubble-popping” business is happening throughout The River—in small groups and during our worship on Sunday mornings.  And all of it is because of stories.
