bLoG42: Consider the Oak Tree

Jan 18, 2011

All trees have roots.  Most trees have a large horizontal root structure: not too deep but wide.  Oak trees, in dry California hills, because of frequent droughts, need a way to get water deep in the soil.  To survive, over time, they have developed a deep taproot—a root that goes down into the soil to both provide stability and access to water.  This is how Oak trees survive, often as the only greenery, in our “golden” hills.

Once Jesus invited his followers to consider the lilies. And today, I ask you to consider the Oak tree, asking yourself whether you have a taproot which enables you to endure during difficult times—spiritual droughts, dry times.  Do you have a taproot, which enables you to be, in Isaiah’s words, an Oak of Righteousness?
