Men Pursuing Purity Conference: Strength in Weakness
Saturday, October 11th

Menlo Park Presbyterian Church and The River Church Community invite you to attend our second Men Pursuing Purity conference. As I consider the Apostle Paul’s words from 2 Corinthians 12:9, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness. Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me,” I realize that only when the Apostle Paul was weak, would it be apparent that it was by Christ’s strength, not his own, that he accomplished what he did as an apostle. So our weakness is a “threshold for holy power.” This is the point where God can meet us to heal us in the deep places within. Our weakness is His opportunity to heal our fears, sin, and bring the light of His truth into our areas of blindness and ignorance. God will be found as we submit our broken and needy parts of ourselves to His greater love and order. In our weakness, God establishes His love and mercy in those areas where we are most in need of Him.

As we understand this idea of weakness more fully, we realize we have three choices; we can deny our neediness, run from God and each other in fear, or acknowledge what is in our lives and humbly begin to allow Jesus to enter into the fractures of our fallen humanity.

This conference offers hope for men who struggle with seeing themselves as “man enough,” have issues with pornography and sexual temptation, live in fear of failing, and haven’t totally resolved past relationships with women.

Our hope is to better equip you to pursue your own healing and to ignite a passion within you to eventually influence these type of groups in your church body.

Our speakers will be:

Peter Kockleman is a lay leader at MPPC who has called forth many men in his church to live out of their true selves in Christ. Through authentic and confessing relationships birthed in his groups, Pete is equipping an army of men to lives of holy transformation and to minister to others the healing Jesus promises.

David Alvarez is the Pastor of Restoration with The River Church Community in San Jose, CA. He leads a 12-week program for his church called The Healing Path; this program focuses on healing in the areas of relational and sexual wholeness. Previous to his coming to the Silicon Valley he was on staff for eight years with Desert Stream Ministries in Anaheim, CA. Desert Stream is a ministry to those seeking deeper healing in the area of personal wholeness in Christ. He has spoken both nationally and internationally on Shame and the Father Wound, Overcoming Self-hatred, Restoring Our True Masculine, and Accepting Ourselves.
Here is the information about the location of the conference.

Our conference will be held in the Fellowship Hall of the First Presbyterian Church, Mountain View, located at 1667 Miramonte Ave, Mountain View, CA 94040.
