Children's Clothing, Toy and Book Exchange

When: Saturday, October 24, 2009, 12:30 PM - 5:30 PM

Where: The River Ministry Center, 701 N. 1st Street, San Jose, CA US 95112

This is an opportunity for you to clean out your closets and toy bins and create teachable moments to talk with your kids about generosity. The clothing swap will run all afternoon at the ministry center, from 12:30 to 5:30. See instructions below for the clothing swap and separate rules for the toy swap. The toy/book swap will go on simultaneously upstairs in the ministry center, but only from 3:00 to 5:00 in order for kids to participate in that themselves. Childcare rooms will be open for kids to occupy themselves while parents search for things, but no childcare workers are promised at this time. Please do not bring items that you want to loan out temporarily, or want to take back if they are not chosen. All leftover clothes, books, toys and baby accessories will be donated to Heritage Home and other organizations helping to love kids in the Bay Area. If you want to donate anything to the swap before Saturday afternoon, please drop off the pre-sorted items to the ministry center and contact Krista-Dawn at . org, to let her know when you are coming.

Clothing Swap Instructions: 12:30-5:30

1. Please bring at least one item of clothing in order to participate in the swap. The more you bring, the more clothes there is to choose from. Once you offer at least one article of clothing into the pot, you are welcome to take AS MUCH AS YOU NEED. This is not a one-to-one trade.

2. Please organize your clothes in separate bags, by the following sizes:

premie/newborn to 3 mo., 3 mo. to 6 mo., 6 mo. to 12 mo., 12 mo to 18 mo. , 18 mo. to 24 mo., 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10

(If there is interest for larger sizes, we can do another swap to older kids on another date.)

There will be a table for each size, and there you will dump your clothes on for folks to sort through. So, please bring them pre-sorted.

3. You are welcome to take as much as you need, and we will be donating all the clothing 0 - 6 mo. to Heritage Home afterwards. In addition to clothes, you can also bring these items for swapping, as they are also needed for Heritage Home moms.

Toy Swap Instructions: 3:00-5:00

As toys fall into the "want" category, rather than the "need category, we will do a one-for-one swap for each toy that is brought.

1. Please organize your toys in bags, according to the following Price ranges:

under $5.00, $5-20, $20-35, $35-50, $50 and over.

2. The toy swap is only between 3:00 - 5:00, allowing for kids to make the swap themselves, with the help of parents. We will not be separating the toys by age. When you arrive, you will receive one ticket for each toy brought. Then you are able to choose as many toys as you have tickets.

3. Books are also available for donating and have no limit set upon them for trading. A number of Kids Community books will be given away.

4. All leftover toys will be donated at the end to a charity TBD.
