“Love Overcomes Fear”
All are invited to attend our next Men’s Breakfast on Saturday, October 24th from 9:30 A.M.-11:30 A.M. at The River Ministry Center, 701 N. First Street, San Jose, 95112.
We continue to look at the condition of our hearts in relationship with God. Many are feeling challenged anew in their devotion but more so in our ability to allow God to love us. My thoughts about this are that God is calling us to “become” more fully alive and more fully human in our marriages, friendships, with co-workers but even more so in relationship with Him.
In our self-reliant valley, most of us pull back from the concept of surrendering ourselves to a power or authority outside ourselves. But the One to whom we surrender is the epitome of love and goodness. God doesn’t want us to respond to him out of fear or obligation. Rather, he invites us to enter into an authentic relationship of intimacy and devotion.
Through examination of the Scriptures and reflection on these truths, my hope is to show us how God bids us to trust fully in His perfect love. 1 John 4:18, “There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.”
