We are God’s workmanship, created for good works in Christ, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.”

Ephesians 2:10

As we move into a new ministry year together as a church, we desire to live into the promises of God. One of the things that really impressed me from chapter 1 of Andy Stanley’s Visioneering is that somehow God “envisioned” each one of us and His entire Body before time began – you and I are part of God’s vision! But, most of us have a hard time holding the tension between seeking clarity for a God vision for our lives with the day to day pressures of job, school, parenting, etc. So, we give up the search and hope it all works out, try to be a solid Christian, only to re-engage God on this level at major decision points – “should we move closer to my parents or downtown?”, “Should I try to change careers or majors?”, “Should I marry person X. or should I wait for someone else who shares more of my values?”.

I want to invite you to come to our first vision seminar on 9/26 from 9 AM – 2 PM. This Fall we are beginning a church wide process of seeking God for clarity and conviction about his specific calling, his vision for our lives. Prayerfully engaging in this seminar, our Sunday teaching, a small group curriculum, and reading Visioneering together will help us lay hold of God’s vision for our lives. (You can get Visioneering at the connecting table or ministry center.) Vision gives meaning to life’s mundane demands – everything matters, even changing diapers. It will draw us out of spiritual lethargy and into passion. It simplifies decision making. It will enable us to know that we have glorified God at the end of our days. Let’s break out of our routines, cynical unbelief, mid-life’s resignation, and believe God’s promise for our lives.

This first seminar (repeated on 10/10 if you prefer that date) will help us gain perspective on our calling by looking at the story God has been writing in each of our lives over a life-time. Our first seminar will be based on the work of Dr. Robert Clinton from Fuller Seminary. He has studied over 1000 lives – Scriptural, historical, and contemporary. In his studies he has discerned a basic alphabet of God’s shaping work that He uses to write each of our life stories; as we understand our life’s shaping events from a God perspective, we will come a long way in gaining clarity of vision for our lives.
