Kids’ Community Volunteer Spotlight: Walter Chang

Walter Chang serves with the Preschool Godly Play community as a storyteller.
Why is The River Church Community your church?
I call The River Church community my "home" because I've found much spiritual growth through the years I've been in this community. I first visited The River my freshman year of college, and found it to be a welcoming place for me to seek after God, even with all my questions. My journey led me back to The River after graduating, and I've been blessed by the many diverse opportunities to grow in my faith. I really appreciate the value of authenticity that permeates many of the relationships God has helped me to cultivate so far.
Why do you serve in Kids’ Community (and for how long have you served)?
I serve in Kids' Community because I enjoy the abundant energy, creativity, and curiosity that children have. It is really special to see children (especially preschoolers) grow, and I love meeting kids at their level to help foster that growth. I started serving in the Orange Feast Room with the preschoolers (3-5 years) from May 2009 and then hopped over to the Purple Sanctuary room in April 2010.
Do you have a favorite story about serving (or you can paint a picture of a favorite experience)?
As a Storyteller for the preschoolers, my favorite moments are when the kids, the door person, and I are so immersed in the story that there is a sense of sacredness and wonder. I find it precious when even the most spirited and most reserved children are captured by the mystery of God through His unfolding drama.
