What Kids Are Saying. . .

Our new ministry year has started off with happy and active kids!  In September the children heard about the life and death of Jesus, Creation, the Ark.  The older kids also got to know each other through “All About Me” posters.

In October, the children heard about Abraham, Moses, and the Tabernacle and the Temple.

October, 2009 Highlights:

From Amy Gibson, storyteller for K-3rd:  They listened very intently to the story of the Great Family. I recall their eyes getting wide when the story winds down to say that Isaac and Rebecca had children and then their children had children and their children had children, on and on for thousands of years.  You could sense their anticipation rising, as they caught on with the mention of their own parents that they were coming next. They broke out into spontaneous smiles, delighted to be a part of things, part of that Family. It was very touching and very dear.

For the second year in a row, grade schoolers reported that the hardest commandments to live out are:  Do not lie (bear false witness) and Do not even want what others have (covet).  Godly Play calls these The 10 Best Ways, as well as The 10 Commandments, and kids could quickly recognize how hard it can be to do the right thing.

Robyn Barron is now a storyteller with the 4th and 5th grade community.  She used to be a storyteller with preschoolers and says, "Man, I guess I got what I wanted!  They ask a lot of really good questions that I need to go back and get the answers for."

As usual, the favorite parts of the stories for preschool and grade school boys are "the fighting parts."

The 4th and 5th grade community did their first Kidserve Sunday on the last Sunday of the month. The kids sorted recycling and washed vans at Heritage Home.  Some of the girls were carrying around a bunch of bags of sorted recycling and said, "It's almost like we're their servants or something!"  Brett Bymaster said, "EXACTLY -- just like Jesus was!"
