The River Church Community

Parents,

This last weekend was action packed with the progressive dinner and small groups.  I'll have more information about the progressive dinner later.

This last Sunday we completed our last spiritual discipline in our Diving Deep series.  Chris and Lis lead our discussion on studying the Word and we used 2 Timothy 3:14-17 as our scripture reference.  We broke up into three different group and talked about ways the youth currently study the Bible and we shared about some other ways you can study the Bible.  We had a Bible with many different translations, Bible dictionary, and we shared about asking what, who, and why questions as they read the Bible. 

Our encouragement was to not just quickly read the scriptures, but to ask questions about the time it was written, who was the audience, and are the words calling us toward some type of action.

- Parent Prayer Breakfast - CANCELED, This conflicts with the Lenten retreat and will be rescheduled in March.

- Valentine's Day Fundraiser, Feb 14th, 4:00 - 7:30 at the River Ministry Center.  If you are helping out, please come at 3:30 for set-up. 

- Sunday Feb 15, Wrapping up Diving Deep

- Sunday Feb 22,
    - Bagel Shop and prayer
    - See's Candies Fundraiser:  Jeanine is going to share with the youth about this fundraiser.  It runs from Feb 22 - March 22nd.  We receive 50% of the profit!!!
    - Small Group: Kristy Takai sharing about her trip to Kenya, Chris Hayes sharing about his upcoming trip to Liberia, and Beti and Yodit sharing about their trip to Ethiopia.  Parents are invited to this event.  Please RSVP if you are coming so that I can have enough food for us all.

- Sunday March 1: Beginning of a four week series on "Peacemaking."

- Saturday March 7: Volunteer Meeting at my house.  9:00 - 12:00.  Light breakfast provided.

- Sunday March 15:
    - Bagel Shop
    - Parent Meeting, March 15, 12:00 - 1:00.  This is our quarterly meeting to share about the upcoming months, answer questions, and to hear you out.  As always, lunch will be provided.   Please RSVP.

- Planet Wisdom Youth Tour, March 27 - 28.  Check out their link.   The Planet Wisdom Tour is right around the corner!!!  The tour is going to be in Brentwood and will begin Friday night and continue until Saturday night.  This event is going to be a great time for us to worship God together, get to know each other, meet others, and to grow!  There are a couple of financial deadlines that I want to note.  Feb 22nd a deposit of $45 is needed.  I am still working out the details for this event and there will be more information that follows.  Please let me know if you are interested so I can keep you informed.
