Student Ministry Weekly Update June 21st - 27th
Jun 24, 2009
Dear Parents,
This week Martin and Meredith taught on New Age. They shared some of their own experiences. As an exercise, we also had the youth create their own religions since a lot of the New Age movement is about creating one's own belief. We looked at some different New Age authors and their sayings. We tried to explain to the students that some New Age beliefs can mimic Christianity, so it is really important for us to know what the Word of God says and what we believe, so that we can recognize the difference and not be deceived.
Important Info:
* You may have noticed signs outside SJSU on Sunday that said "restricted access." The reason for this is that SJSU is using one of KC's rooms for registration, and KC is using our normal music room. Over the summer, we will be meeting in the middle landing of the Student Union. I realize that this is not ideal, but hopefully it will only be for the next few months.
* We have 2 more weeks of our study on world religions. Beginning July 12th, staff from The River and our volunteers will be sharing their testimonies with the youth. This is an important component of our intergenerational ministry value in the church.
* Robin and Audrey Nickell have signed-up for the event at Heritage Home on Saturday. Thank you! Please let me know if any more of the girls are available.
* Our baby is due this Saturday. I'm trying to get as much organized as possible before Baby arrives, but I will be taking some time (1-2 weeks) of paternity leave after the birth. Because Chris is alone on his teaching Sundays, I need somebody to help with student management. Please let me know if you are available on 6/28 or 7/12. Those are the most probable dates that I would be out.
* Summer schedule is finally here! Please see attached. It has been very difficult to finalize the outreaches that I would like to do, but I will be adding those as I can. I also may add some extra weekend activities, but want to wait until I see what unfolds with my job search, and what our lives are like with the new baby (and when she actually arrives). Please understand if I have to cancel an event or two to help Amy out. However, if you are able to help with any of the events, please let me know. I need planners and chaperones. I may be hunting you down!
* As you know, I have 2 months before my hours are reduced. Amy and I are looking into a few different possibilities, but the reality is that finding a well-paying part-time job is difficult. I feel like it is necessary for me to also look at full-time jobs, but my hope is to stay at The River. I will keep you posted.

* Martin Turner - New job placement in his company.

* Chris H. - Busy summer and is thankful for a place in Monterey to stay and that they are moving back to his house
