Student Ministry's Weekly Update, October 19-25, 2008

Oct 22, 2008

Parents,

This past Sunday we all headed out to the Bagel Shop for a time of fellowship and reconnecting with each other.  You can check out the pictures from that event on this link.  After 30 minutes, we headed out to the Student Union Pavilion and talked about having our quiet times.  I used this time to talk about different ways to have our quiet times.  Some of the students shared how they do it.  One student mentioned that she prays between breaks in practices, but has a difficult time connecting with God daily, so she usually has a larger QT during the week.

This coming Sunday, we are going to look at the topic of service.  We are also going to announce service projects that the youth can sign-up for.  These projects include hosting a gathering at SJSU, baby shower at the Heritage Home, gathering nonperishable foods for the Food Basket, and collecting blankets to lead up to an event for the homeless.  These projects are church-wide, and I hope that the youth and adults in our church can work side-by-side to serve our community.  Most of these projects will occur on November 9th, 14th, 15th, and 16th.

Upcoming Events:
-October 26th: Small Groups after church.  Lunch is being provided, but a $10 donation would  be greatly appreciated.  (This donation will be used to purchase food from the grocery store and will be put into a "pot" to last through the next several months.)  The girls will be meeting at my house and the guys will be meeting at the Ministry Center.  Our topic this coming week is Evolution or Creation.
-October 31st: Halloween: It sounds like this is a difficult day to get together, so we will NOT be having a Halloween party on Friday night.  We will, however, have a social event on Saturday, November 1st.

Parent Involvement:
- Fundraising:  This year I would ideally like to have one fundraiser a month to help pay for events and supplies.  If YOU are interested in helping, please let me know!  I have a few ideas and I would love to work with you to raise money for Student Ministries.

Youth Blog:
If you still haven't seen it, you are missing out on all the cool things that are happening in Student Ministries.  Check out the Student Ministry Happenings here!
