Judy has been a part of The River since the early days in 1998 when we were a new church meeting at the Sunnyvale Community Center. Back then, she and her husband were DINKs working in high tech marketing, and also volunteering at The River in small groups ministry and community-building. Once she became a mom in 2002, she began volunteering and leading in our children’s ministry. She joined the staff team in 2014 and has played several positions in that time.
She began on staff as the Children’s Ministry Director. During her 2 years in that role, Judy found herself drawn to opportunities to serve the broader church, particularly in the area of strategic planning. Fortunately for everyone, in 2016, Judy found a passionate and capable person in Lesley Stahl to take over her Children's Ministry responsibilities, and Judy was able to shift her responsibilities toward Planning and Operations while we searched for our Executive Pastor. Now that we have hired Steve Joh for that role, Judy has come full circle and is channeling her energies toward helping people get integrated into the life of our church as the Community Life Director. She partners with Michelle Manley on our Small Groups ministry as well as helping people (from newcomers to long-timers) move along deeper toward Partnership at The River. Judy has a passion for helping people find a place of growth, belonging, and purpose at the church that she and her family have called home for over 20 years.
Judy and her husband, Tom, met on the East Coast the summer before they both moved out to California to attend Stanford (and were fortuitously placed in the same freshman dorm!). Tom served on The River’s board for 10 years and works as an executive at a high tech company. They have been married since 1995 and have two daughters in middle school and high school. In her free time, Judy enjoys baking, cooking, hosting people at her house, games, creative/crafty activities, and photography.
