The River Church Community

Hello Everyone!

Hooray for my first official River Staff blog post.  I'm hoping to post weekly on happenings here at The Ministry Center.

Hope you are staying cool.  My baby is a sweaty mess every time she wakes up from her nap!

We officially welcomed Tony Traback to our staff this week.  Tony is our new Pastor of Missional Mobilization.  He actually started a couple of weeks ago, but was travelling in Latin America with Jim Martin meeting some of our ICE Partners.  Tony was able to join our Peru ICE team in Huanuco and see Paz y Esperanza in action.  I'll post his comments in a separate post.

Lots of travelling going on too.  Krista-Dawn left today for India and will be gone for the next 4 weeks.  In addition to reuniting with her husband Joel who is in India working with InterVarsity for the summer, Krista-Dawn will be leading an India ICE team from The River.  From India, she will fly to Bangkok where the Bangkok ICE Team will meet her to help lead worship for a student conference.

Kyle and Stacy just returned from Honduras last night.  We're anxious to hear their updates!  The Peru team arrives home soon as well.

Brad, Mark, and David are preparing our next sermon series on Spiritual Warfare which starts in a few weeks.

Angela lead us in moving all of our stuff to Westminster Pres on Sunday and is finalizing the details for our first service there this coming Sunday at 4pm.

We continue to pray for the Hawkins family as they grieve their loss.

The River @ Westminster Presbyterian Church this summer

-          This summer SJSU has the unique opportunity to host the US Olympic athletes as they make their way to Beijing.

-          Unfortunately for us that means we will not have access to the ballroom from July 13^th to August 24^th. THAT”S STARTING NEXT SUNDAY.

-          We will be holding service at Westminster Presbyterian Church, a beautiful historic building on The Alameda, about 2 miles from here

-          Service time will be 4 pm.

-          We will also have all-church family dinners each Sunday after service.

Thailand ICE Fundraiser

-          A group of 5 members of our Worship Team is leaving at the end of July for an ICE trip to Thailand. They will be leading worship for a group of college students who spent the summer ministering to the urban poor all throughout Asia. KDK is leading the team.

-          The Thailand team is selling T-shirts at the Connecting Team designed by Gil, one of the members of the team. BUY A SHIRT.

-          The team is also holding a Garage Sale on Saturday, July 12 from 8 am to 3 pm in the parking lot of The River Ministry Center. All proceeds from the sale will go towards the cost of the trip. Show your support, get some sun, and do some shopping.

-          If you have any items you would like to donate to the garage sale, please bring them to the ministry center by Wednesday, July 9.
