Whats Happening Header

Greetings River!

This is Donna Miles final week as The River's receptionist and office manager.  Thank you Donna for nine years of faithful service and hospitality offered to the church!

The River has new information for stock donations.  Please or call Dave Kwok (408-252-5500 x104) to receive the updated information.

Brad is back from his trip to China.  He had an encouraging trip visiting Dorcas and Ned Tozun as well as other River friends.  He comes back to a seminary class and some rest and relaxation.

Tony is back from Liberia!  He, Baker and Chris had a good trip and you will be hearing more about it in the coming weeks.

Our all-church intercessory prayer meeting is coming up this Tuesday, May 5 from 7-8:30pm at the Ministry Center.

Check the website for a new story by Rick Schertle about his experience during our Loving San Jose event.

Congratulations are due to two staff who recently celebrated their staff anniversaries recently.  Michelle Manley celebrated her tenth anniversary at The River, and Mark Phifer-Houseman just passed the one-year mark.  Congratulations!

Welcome Dessert - Friday May 1, 7:30pm - 9pm

If you have recently starting attending The River or are looking for ways to connect deeper into the life of our church, we invite you to a Welcome Dessert at the home of Tom and Judy Tsao, and hosted by Pastor Mark Phifer-Houseman. We will provide a brief history of The River, explain our values as a church, offer ways for you to get involved, and answer any questions you may have. But mostly, we just want to get to know you over some delicious desserts and drinks in a relaxing, friendly environment.

Please let us know if you can make the event so we can provide you with address and directions. Email Angela Aviles at or call 408.252.5500 x106.

Firestarters - Sunday May 3, 6-7:30pm

The resurrection of Christ gives us great hope, but moving forward and planting in abandoned places is hard work.  It’s even harder when we feel that we might be the only ones doing so!  Come join us as we gather together to have our hearts stirred by God’s Word, encouraged by others’ planting stories, and changed through prayer and meditation to venture forth.  Please contact Steve Hu () for more details.

Self-Defense Class - Saturday May 9, 9am - 1pm

This 4-hour self-defense workshop presented by Impact Bay Area focuses on street safety & awareness, physical & verbal boundary setting and hands-on, effective self-defense techniques.  In this course, participants will practice using assertiveness and boundary-setting techniques in realistic scenarios and learn some basic physical self-defense techniques proven to work.

Course fee is $100.  To register, contact Mary Lucitt 408-761-4325/
