This Week at The River Ministry Center 07/29/2009

Dear River friends,

I am very excited that our first all-church retreat is already at capacity (and am fervently hoping that we can find more beds).  One of my sabbatical reflections was about how little time we have for one another . . . sometimes even within our own families.  Jean Vanier’s book, Living Gently in a Violent World, talks about how the hectic pace of our lives does violence to our souls.  Perhaps you sense that reality in your own life or in the life of someone dear to you.  Amongst all the discipleship choices that Jesus calls us to, some of the most challenging have to do with making time for one another.

If you have already signed up, I’m grateful for your investment in seeing that our church fulfill it’s calling to be the living, breathing body of Christ (not just a weekly program).  I am praying that Jesus will meet us in a special way as we seek His presence and purposes.   I also ask your prayers that God would pour out His Spirit upon us and knit our hearts together in His love.

If you have not signed up, I want to urge you to consider adding your name to the waitlist by contacting .  Our staff will be doing everything we can to create a welcoming place for you.

Grace and peace,

Brad Wong
Lead Pastor

Hello River,

Check out Mark Phifer-Houseman's seminar this Sunday on "Prayer in the Dark Night of the Soul".  Please note the time as it was incorrect in last Sunday's materials.  It will be from 7-9pm at the Ministry Center.

Those of you who are registered for the all-church retreat should pick up a copy of the pre-reading book Visioneering at the Connecting table.  We also have a few copies here at the Ministry Center.  Please read the Introduction and Chapter 1 before the retreat.  We are currently at capacity, but please contact if you'd like to be added to the retreat waitlist.

Angela Aviles and Mark Manley are at the Echo church media conference in Dallas TX this week.  Check out their website to find out more about it.

River Softball is getting underway - see the announcements below.

Cheerio,
Dave
