This week at The River Ministry Center - 10/21/08

Oct 21, 2008

Hello blog readers,

Dave Kwok is vacationing in Cambria so this is Angela Aviles writing the weekly River staff blog post. In following with Dave's usual format, I should include some random anecdote here. Humm.... today I had a cherry lime vanilla italian soda and loved it. I was also happy to see that Torani's syrups are made with pure cane sugar and not high fructose corn syrup. No wonder they taste so good... next time you're in the office, let me make you an italian soda!

So what is the River staff up to this week? Let me look around...

Krista-Dawn is listening to classical music and working on her message for this Sunday. Yes, KDK is delivering her first sermon this week... hooray!

Tony is back from Central America and putting the final touches on the November Kindness San Jose projects. Don't forget you can start bringing blankets, jackets, and non-perishable foods THIS SUNDAY. There will be bins at church for you to drop off your stuff. Thanks in advance.

Jill is excited about some new carts that will make Kids' Community set-up and tear-down so much easier. Benjy Guerrero has been helping her. Thanks, Benjy and Jill. I love a well organized closet!

Last Saturday's Reconciliation Training proved to be very helpful, though-provoking, and life-changing. I was chatting with Mark P-H about it this morning and am so thankful that God is growing us to be a community of peacemakers. I can't wait to attend the training myself this Saturday. If you missed it too, there is another training this Saturday from 9 am to 2 pm.

We are hosting a Welcome Dessert this Friday at Michelle Manley's home from 7:30 pm to 9 pm. If you are new to the church, if you have questions about the church, or if you just want to hangout with some River staff this Friday night, come and join us. Email me at and I'll send you directions to the Manleys.

If you missed the announcement at church last Sunday, we're offering a Hospitality Training on Saturday, November 8th from 9 am to 1 pm. Read more about it here!

We're turning one of the kids room at the Ministry Center into a Prayer room. The prayer room will be open during the week for anyone who needs a quiet space to read, pray, journal, nap, *just be with God*.  The prayer room should be ready in a couple weeks... we will let you know when it's open. We're currently looking for a comfty couch for the prayer room... if you have one, let me know!

OKay, I think that is all for now. Thanks for reading!

-Angela
