This Week at The River Ministry Center 8/5/08
Aug 05, 2008
Hello Everyone!
Welcome to August. I hope you're squeezing every once of enjoyment from the waning days of summer.
Work on the website continues to move along. Our new website uses a content management system (CMS) that makes managing the website much less technical. We will be training the staff tomorrow on how to manage different sections of the website. The hope is that the site stays fresher, more relevant, and more useful for both newcomers and church members. If you'd like to checkout the progress go to: theriver.monkcms.net and if you'd like to provide feedback, join this group on The Reef.
Angela and Tony are working hard to get ready for a special "Serving Sunday" on Sunday August 31. This is our first post-Westminster service, and the plan is for us to take our normal Sunday time to do some family-friendly kindness projects. We'll gather back at lunchtime for a barbecue. You'll hear more about it this Sunday.
David is preparing his fall small group based on the book Changes that Heal. This group will start September 15 and go for 10-12 weeks. I found this book very accessible and helpful and would encourage you to consider it. David will be making an announcement about the group this Sunday.
We'll be gathering tonight at our Intercessory Prayer meeting to pray for the Geoghegan's. Join us if you are available at 7pm at the Ministry Center.
The Kimseys are back from India! They just arrived this morning. Say hello this Sunday.
Here's the announcements from Sunday:
Life Together book discussion
- The Leadership Community (staff, small group leaders and ministry leaders) is reading Dietrich Bonhoeffer's book Life Together this summer. This is a short seminal work on Christian Community that provides a vivid picture of what it means to be a reconciling community. Others are also invited to join us in reading this book over the summer.
- Our next discussion is on Sunday, Aug 24 at the Ministry Center from 9:30am - 11:30am. Please try to have read chapters 2 & 3 before this meeting. Please RSVP to Dave Kwok (). We will have a light breakfast, but no childcare will be available.
- Books are available at the Connecting Table. The books cost the church $11 and donations are appreciated but not required.
Honduras Reception
- You're invited to come hear stories and see pictures from the Honduras team at their team reception TODAY.
- Grab your dinner and bring it into room E-220 for the reception.
Dinner after service in Fireside Room
- We’ve had a wonderful turnout these last few Sundays for dinner. Join us this week for Chinese food.
- We have some tables set up outside which should help the temperature
- I would encourage you to take this opportunity to sit with someone you don't know as well. For those of you who have been at the church for a while, seek out an unfamiliar face and extend hospitality to them
- Please let families with small children go through the food line first
Welcome/Connecting
- If you are new, and have questions about the church, please ask any of Connecting Hosts or staff members wearing a blue River lanyard and nametag.
- The Connecting Table is now located OUTSIDE. There are EGGROLLS out there for you enjoy.
