This Week at The River Ministry Center 9/3/08

Sep 03, 2008

Happy Fall Everybody!

We had a great morning together on Sunday serving up some "Kindness San Jose" and picnicking afterwards. River teams went all over the city to hand out drinks, greet neighbors with cookies, pray, clean up, and a host of other activities. It was very cool to arrive at the park and see everyone enjoying food and each other and sharing about their morning experiences. I hope you had a chance to take part!

I'm excited about the first installment of BudgetWatchers that starts this Sunday at 8:45am in the Pacheco Room. It's going to be a fun, social way for us to help each other reach our financial goals. Come check it out! I'm buying bagels! More info at: http://www.the-river.org/community-life/budgetwatchers/

Tony and Krista-Dawn have had a great response to various outreach events at San Jose State. Krista-Dawn led a group on Sunday in partnership with the Intervarsity campus ministry giving care packets out to students in the dorms. Today, Tony and Krista-Dawn gave out 200 water bottles and care packets at San Jose State's Student Group Fair. Praise God for great contacts with students this past week! Priscilla Lerza, one of the Intervarsity staff workers at San Jose state will be coming on Sunday morning September 13 to share in more detail about what God is doing on campus.

Jill is hard at work preparing for the classroom reconfiguration that starts this Sunday. Among other things, we are excited for the introduction of Godly Play in the grade school classroom!

Brad, Krista-Dawn and I have been working hard on the Leadership Retreat coming up on September 12-13. It is going to be a great kick-off to the year and into our season of peacemaking.

Kyle is kicking off the ministry year in Student Ministries with an all parent/volunteer meeting this Sunday after church.

I and Tony have been working on the Giving Team budget for Ministry Year 2009 as well as streamlining the Giving Team policies.

The new website is up! Check it out atwww.the-river.org. The home page is chock full of fresh stories and articles for you to read.

We are packing up from Westminster and returning to San Jose State this week. Angela is leading a team to move our stuff tomorrow afternoon.

That's it for this week! Dave
