Update from Shannon Geoghegan 9/19/2008

Dear Loving Angel Helpers,

I am so sorry you are just now getting an update.  Today has been the biggest whirlwind of a day with multiple people working on getting information about insurance, finances and status of Hannah Jane's pending surgery.  We have just found out enough to be able to update you.  I am in the outside of Hannah Jane's unit with daddy Rod inside being with Hannah Jane while I type this.

God has paved the way for Hannah's surgery in a very unique way.  Here's a brief summary of the outcome for surgery as I need to get back to nurse Hannah Jane as much as she can take in before her cut off at 3AM to prep for tomorrow.  Surgery is on for tomorrow around 11 AM here at Stanford with Dr. Edwards and his team.  Surgery and time in recovery will be approx. 8 or 9 hours.

How we got here is very strange and is a whole new situation we will ask for prayer how we will make ends meet later, but no time for that now, we will have to deal with the long term effects then and trust in God to make a way as He is faithful.

I had a placenta abruption at 31 weeks that required me to be in the hospital and for Rod to take time off work to care for me while I recovered.  He asked for time off and was given it as unpaid leave. When Hannah Jane was born last Thursday we found out that with surgery and recovery here and then travel to Duke Medical for her next treatment that he would need 2 additional weeks off.  He called his boss and left a message requesting this time.  When he didn't hear back by the next day, he emailed and called again.  After leaving several more messages with no return call.  Still no call by this morn.  Rod tried his cell again today and his boss, Rich told him that they have already hired someone to replace him and that he is not needed to return.  Since Rod worked there less than 1 year and the company is less than 50 people, Rod did not have job security with Family Medical Leave Act.

The blessing is that since they let Rod go, Hannah Jane is definetely covered by Medical now that there is no other health insurance.  We have a share of cost each month for her Medical of $2650 that had to be paid today before confirming surgery, but because you generous AngeHelpers have gifted the Hannah Jane fund at the River, we were able to pay that and proceed.  Thanks be to your generousity and for making this happen for our precious baby, who I hope you think of as your niece and family too - we sure think of you as her special aunties and uncles.

Please, please be praying for her during her surgery tomorrow as well as the doctors who are performing the operation.  Please pray that there be no complications and that Hannah Jane bounces back quickly.

As soon as the operation is over, Hannah Jane is stable and we have seen her, another post will follow.

God bless you all for loving us through.  May God give you His peace and comfort.

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight."

Proverbs 3:5-6

Love and Blessings,
Shannon
