Tony Traback joined staff as the Pastor of Mission Mobilization in July of 2008. Tony’s charge is to help create an environment where our community is engaging missionally in our local communities through small groups, as a congregation in the downtown context, and internationally through ICE trips. Tony reflects, “I am passionate about mobilizing The River misionally because I believe that as the church community, God has invited us to love as he loved, to enflesh his justice, mercy and compassion, and to invite others to join us on this adventure. We are the community and by our actions, we testify to the Father (Mt 5:13-17).”
Tony graduated from Claremont Mckenna College and holds a Masters in Theology from Fuller Theological Seminary. After college, he worked with the Peace Corps in rural Kenya where he lived in a rural village and taught about HIV/AIDS and basic business skills. After returning from Kenya, Tony worked with incarcerated teenagers struggling with drug and alcohol addiction at Advent Group Ministries as a live-in counselor and staff supervisor. Prior to coming to The River, Tony worked as the Youth Director at the Presbyterian Church of San Martin while he completed his degree from Fuller.
Tony enjoys exploring other countries, reading, nature, and avoiding driving. Tony and his wife Jeannie live in downtown San Jose.
